La Lima Free Zone obtained the carbon neutral certification

Since the beginning of the La Lima Free Trade Zone operations, in Cartago, we have evolved with sustainability as a transversal axis in our growth strategy.

Thanks to these structured and sustained efforts, we recently obtained carbon neutrality certification. This recognition is delivered through the Carbon Neutral Program which is a voluntary mechanism that can be accessed by organizations, public and private companies, communities and event organizers, to demonstrate with facts, the emission reduction, removal and compensation plan, as well such as the strengthening of decarbonization promoted by the Directorate of Climate Change of the Ministry of Environment and Energy (MINAE).

One of the key actions that allowed us to be awarded this certification was the continuous monitoring of emissions from the business park. Thanks to this, it is possible to reduce and compensate for the carbon dioxide (CO2) that we emit due to our operation.

According to MINAE data, from 2012 to date, more than 200 organizations, 21 municipalities and two districts joined the Carbon Neutral program.

In addition to these efforts, in the La Lima Free Zone administrative building, we have implemented a series of measures that involve raising awareness of infrastructure issues such as, for example, the maximum use of natural light, ventilated spaces that minimize the use of air conditioners, low-consumption taps and efficient irrigation systems, in addition to the implementation of a Sustainable Mobility Business Plan (PEMS).

We also contemplate, from the fertilizers that are used in our gardens, to the gasoline from the motorized pruners. And, to improve the user experience and provide thermal comfort for pedestrians, in the last year we planted around 700 trees on the sidewalks.

We constantly reinforce our vision, through internal campaigns that enable our employees to obtain information on efficient driving and lighting, waste treatment and management plants, as well as a policy that encourages the use of bicycles as a means of transport. The previous year we also received the Ecological Blue Flag award.
